Diabetes.co.uk launched #bloodsugarselfies in 2014 to highlight World Diabetes day and raise funds. It asked people to download and share selfies showing their glucose meter and reading. More than 800 selfies were downloaded, by patients as diverse as singer Chaka Khan and Angel, a Lhasa Apso dog. These led to 4.2 million impressions, 45,000 "likes", 4,500 comments, 10,000 shares and 867 donations worth £5,000.
